‍The target consumer for this system are people who may have a need of getting takeouts often, but not willing or cannot afford the cost of takeout. This also helps restaurants with set menu or preprepared food who often produce waste with unserved food.

Everyone is able to help save every grain of rice on Earth.

Consumers would use this system with the entice of food at a cheaper price, while restaurants would use the system to make money off of food that would otherwise go to waste without profit.

Grain's mission statement is to lessen food waste created in restaurants and in return minimize the production of greenhouse gases.

Through the discovery and nearby function, users can browse through a selection of food that is filtered by location and time. Users can browse through categories of meal they want to schedule for purchase, or look for one that is near them through the map integration.

The food overview lets user know the time of pickup, price, restaurant location and a freshness rating scale that is provided from other users feedback of this restaurants overall quality. After user chooses a meal, they will follow a simple step of adding to cart, checkout, and provided with a QR code for restaurants to scan and pickup. The notify restaurant button, gives user more communication with the restaurant of their arrival.

As an incentive for users to keep using Grain, they can see their progress in their profile. Their profile keeps track of how much food and money they saved. As they level up as a "saver" in Grain, they can collect coupons or free meals.

Through interviews and understanding the user's journey, the design criteria for Grain had to be simple, convenient and engaging. Consumers should feel easy to find what they need. It should help them save time and not feel like they have to do extra work. Users should also feel that they have control of what they want but also excited for surprising selections.

Through researching about other competitive systems, Grain fulfills a missing market of consumers who are looking for budget-friendly meals that give them healthier choices.

Initial wireframes and research helped me test out the user flow for Grain's system.

I named this system "Grain" based on a saying in Chinese, that every grain of rice is important. The logo mark is inspired by the opening ceremony of a rice bowl. The overall aesthetic chosen for Grain is the combination of simplicity and farmland.
